Well, I could spend a lot of time recounting an entire day, but have decided
not to. Instead we have awards with comments...
Funniest Band of the Day: Frenzal Rhomb. Started with Neil Hamburger introduction - went on to smashing a TV over a guy in a Ronald McDonald suit. Played flawlessly, including some new stuff - in particular a song called "Russell Crowes band is a piece of shit", which included a sketch mid-song where a Russell Crowe lookalike came out and they smashed bottles over his head (lot of smashing in this gig). Also an outro of "We were substandard, we did substandard things" to Alex Lloyd's "Amazing". And just general riot inciting behaviour. Awesome. Most predictably sounding Band of the Day: 28 Days. Talk about keeping it pretty average. Biggest "Rock" band of the Day: Pacifier. Songs sounded great - used the main stage like a rock band should - plenty of energy - surprisingly big crowd I thought. Best Mosh of the Day: Millencolin. Opened with "No Cigar". Played really well - much like their tour last year tho. The "Shit we knew they were going to be good, but they just melted our minds" Award: Sparta. I am now the proud owner of a Sparta CD. These guys were spot-on. Really really enjoyed watching them play - considering spending another $40 to go and see their solo show tonight... Best Sound on the Day: Jimmy Eat World. They managed to make that shitty shed sound good. Pretty much a cut down version of the set from last Thursday - well done again tho. The "Good To Hear Again" Award. The Living End. Cheney is an amazing guitarist - new drummer (Andy) slotted in well. The "Didn't hear a good word about them, didn't see them" Award The Vines Paul C. said they were soooooo shit. Biggest Frustration of the Day: The D-Barrier. Waited over 2 hours to try and get in to watch Jane's, gave up in the end. Earlier in the day took only 5 minutes to get in The "Shit we knew they were going to be good, but they weren't as good as we expected" Award: Queens Of The Stoneage Thought their efforts from a few years ago were much better. Not sure why, just didn't grab me as much (but they were still a great band - just not spectacular) Least Captivating Artist of the Day: PJ Harvey. Ok. See title of award. Biggest mind-spin of the Day: Jane's Addiction It's like they were touring the Ritual album - spot on musically, only played one new song. Will review their solo show post-Thursday. Particularly tripped out on the dancing girl they hoisted into a caged ball above Stephen Perkins on "Ted, Just Admit It". Navarro is my God. Biggest Disappointment of the Day: Foo Fighters. Just seemed a bit boring - watched 4 or 5 songs, but in the end, they didn't do it for me (I even went back later to check - they still weren't doing it for me) Most "Sebastian Bach-sounding" Singer of the Day: Murderdolls. This guy is Baz in disguise I'm sure. They sounded pretty good for the couple of songs I saw... Biggest Surprise of the Day: Xzibit. There were sooooo many people watching him, singing along. And he was bloody good as well. That's it in a nutshell. Sorry to those people I didn't get to see: Paul B, Adi, Bren, Gav, Skogg, Katy, Elaine, Greg, anyone else who was there that I didn't know about... And hi to the people I did get to see: Paul C, Imogen, Mark G, Mark J |
