A sad situation
I know it's taken me a few days to get around to blogging about this - apologies, that's just a lack of free time (a bad thing) and a lack of computer time (which isn't such a bad thing). Last Monday, the ABC's "4 Corners" aired an episode on incidents that happened with a young woman and the Cronulla Sharks touring New Zealand 7 years ago. Since then, it's had a lot of press in the papers and television. I watched the episode with a feeling of disgust and repulsion for the ugliness of humanity. It illustrated to me all that is wrong with the pack mentality and predatory nature of humans, and all too often, in particular, elite male sports meatheads. A young woman has endured a horrific ordeal, and it enrages me to see some of the public attempt to turn the story so that the poor NRL players are the victims, and that she was either asking for it, or loved it and has since changed her story for publicity. Those people obviously haven't watched the 4 Corners story in its entirety. And to see Matthew Johns on The Footy Show and ACA with tears in his eyes, making a "heartfelt" apology - it's sickening. Anyway, enough from me on this subject, please read this excellent article from The Age a few days ago instead.
