Underbelly
I've been watching Channel 9's take on the Melbourne gangland scene in the 1990's, Underbelly, over the past couple of weeks. The show is extremely well produced and very, very watchable. Hopefully it gets a public airing here in Victoria soon (it's currently under court order not to be shown)

i have to vehemently disagree with this!
yes, it is very, very watchable - i've been glued to every episode.
but i think the production is absolute RUBBISH, and i attribute the watchability entirely to the great story. i think ch9 really let themselves down with the whole series. the story had so much potential and quite a few good actors, and they've filled it with lame and unrealistic dialogue and direction. not to mention the unforgivable clangers riddling each episode. to name but a few of the most offensive:
-the low-floor trams used in the "establish melbourne" shots in 1998!
-there's constant shots of characters in the docklands in the late 90s, in landmark buildings that weren't even built yet.
-really shocking lapses in continuity where characters refer to themselves by the wrong names.
i'm really bad at picking stuff like this up usually, so i can't even imagine how many more an alert viewer would notice :)
You know what Jade, I actually agree. Having watched a few more episodes since I wrote this post, it is more the story that's drawing me in than the production. I hadn't noticed any of the things you picked up, but I'll start to keep an eye out now :)
