Daniel Kitson
Steph, Sean and I went out and saw Daniel Kitson do some stand-up a week ago in his show "The Impotent Fury of the Priveleged". It was a fantastic show - I really enjoyed it. So that's 2 in a row for Mr. Kitson (as we saw his show last year as well). While last year's show was more uplifting and positive, this show was a bit more critical of the world and certainly hammered home the message of a world in trouble needing help. Two comments from the show (which was 2 hours long and a flurry of monologue from him) which really stuck with me;
1. Upon retelling a story of a group of drunk hooligans on a bus, he told that the leader of the group said to one who was misbehaving "You know better, so do better". What a fantastic string of six words - very powerful.
2. When describing his need to "stand up" in difficult situations (e.g. standing up to bullies, righting wrongs that he sees), he used one of the most eloquent and descriptive sentences; He fears having to live with "the pre-emptive distaste of his retrospective cowardice". Again, great for the linguists in the audience.
Overall, the show was exceptional. If you're looking for something to see during the comedy festival, he's highly recommended.
