My hero for today
I imagine it's pretty freakin' hard to start a new life a new country. It's pretty confronting if it's a culture that's different to your own as well I'd think. So, what would we, as Australians, do to make this transition into a new life easier and welcome those from different backgrounds into this great country? Well we make 'em sit a test. A big fat stupid citizenship test. My good friend Laith sat the test yesterday. Studied his ass off for it I bet. Anyway, they give you 45 minutes to do the test apparently. Laith did it in 4 minutes... and got 100%. I'm extremely proud of him for his efforts, and very sorry that he has to do stupid shit imposed by our govenment, just because he wasn't born here. What a colossal waste of Laith's (or anyone else's) time.

Open your eyes mate. Go to any non-Western country and see how non-locals are treated.
I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here "Anonymous". Is it OK for us to do it because non-Western countries do it? I'd think I'd feel the same way (and the same principles apply) if I was currently sittig in Japan seeing anyone come from anywhere take the same test we're currently running here. Keen to hear more from your perspective...
Japan is homogenous. You would not be able to get nationality in Japan so no need to sit a test. You would unlikely ever be able to get nationality in any APAC country, let alone own a house there. Western countries are far more welcoming than any non-Western country. Which is why people travel through 15 countries to seek asylum here. The test is trivia.
Right - got it. So you're saying that we're actually ahead of the pack with our current approach. Regardless of comparisons against other countries, I just don't think it's necessary to make people sit a test like this to become citizens...
