Where has Andy been?
Well, it's certainly been a while since I blogged. So, what's been taking up my time instead of blogging? Here's just a few things I've been doing since my last entry;
- I had a birthday. That was good - fairly low key event, not much to report. Got some awesome presents off my in-laws (including a proper ukelele, a nice new music stand and a Cold Chisel CD, which I've listened to a heap. They were such an amazing band)
- I saw "Lamb of God". I meant to write a review, but didn't quite get around to it. It was a good gig - they played well, sound wasn't fantastic (it was at The Palace). Good, clean metal fun though
- I've been organising SDM's attendance at the APAC SharePoint Conference. I'm really looking forward to it - it's been a lot of work though to get up and running. Means I'm in Sydney for a bit next week.
- We've been thinking about what to do with the house. Renovate vs. move vs. knock down/rebuild. We're seriously leaning towards knock down/rebuild at the moment. With it comes a whole bunch of financial shit though that's got to be sorted out, so that's been occupying my mind for a fair bit.
- I've been trying to organise my attendance of a conference (and subsequent holiday) in the US in July. I'll be attending the Microsoft Global Partner Conference (a huge event that's bound to be pretty cool). That sees me in Denver, Colorado for a little under a week, then I'll be heading to New York for a holiday for 5 days. I'm hoping to catch up with my friend Trev in Colorado (he lives in Boulder) and my friend Chidgey in New York (he's travelling the world at the moment). Anyway, logistically, it's turning into a bit of a nightmare... but I'm really looking forward to it all.
- I had a solo weekend with Aurora. Steph went away with her Mother's group for the weekend and Aurora and I chilled out, went for walks, played a lot - it was great.
- I've been onsite a lot with clients (more than usual). It's been great delivering real value to organisations and getting to flex my brain, but at the same time, it's been a bit of a distraction from some of my internal responsibilities at work.
- I'm going to see Nine Inch Nails tomorrow night (for the 4th time). Cool :)
- I've been trying to hire people. Argh. There's no one out there with the skills I need (SharePoint and/or Project Server). It's causing me some headaches...
- I've been trying (half-heartedly) to give up smoking. I've been socially smoking again this year, and find it becoming more of a habit than not. I'm on leave next weekend in Adelaide (where I know I'll be smoking). After that, I stop again (hopefully for at least another 4 years)
- Learning songs. Yep, I'm playing a gig with Greg's students (Monstar Music) in a little over a month from now and have to learn 11 songs on acoustic before then. There's a fair mix as well, from Kelly Clarkson to Bjork to Jeff Buckley to The Doors to Jessica Simpson (don't laugh at that last one - it's the hardest one so far). I'm a bit nervous about getting it all perfected in time, but it will be what it will be. Greg owes me big time for this :) it's taking a lot more effort than I thought... Then again, maybe I should practice guitar more anyway!
So, a fair mix of work and non-work stuff. Enough to fill Andy's brain, that's for sure.
