G3
Saw G3 in concert last night; John Petrucci, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. I tell you, it ranks as one of the finest concerts I've ever seen. Petrucci was unflappable - just technically jaw-dropping. And he had Mike Portnoy with him on drums - I could just watch him play drums for an hour I reckon. Vai was, well, Vai. He commands the stage and the guitar, and is the showman's showman - incredibly flamboyant, but with the skills to back it all up. Satch was a little disappointing I thought - some of his stuff was great... but it was all a bit "haven't we seen this one or two too many times before?". The all-in jam was pretty cool, sometimes a little over the top though. The sound for the night was spot on, the venue (Regent Theatre) was excellent - good view, plenty of room. All in all, a superb night - Petrucci and Vai though... wow.
