The crazy ideas one has when young...

... and full of the devil.

So, in my heady days of playing guitar almost constantly, and recording a bunch of it, I came up with an idea to record a series of instrumental songs capturing a set of emotional states. I came up with about 8 or 9 of these feelings I wanted to capture, but can only (to the best of my recollection) recall the following:

  • Paranoia
  • Regret
  • Deja Vu
  • Conceit
  • Despair
  • Guilt
  • Joy

I recorded the first 4, but that's as far as I got. Anyway, had a listen to them just now and thought I'd share a few of them with the world. Bearing in mind that these were recorded in February and March 1999 (yes, 7.5 years ago), have a listen to;

a.) Conceit. 2 guitars and a bass forming a 3 part song. Rough take indeed, as you will no doubt here from the mistakes in the guitar solos. Most parts sound like they were done in single takes.

b.) Regret. 1 guitar (with a phaser and a delay) recorded in a single take. Mixed a little loud though (turn it down prior to starting). Definitely the best of those recorded I would say.

Speaking of deja vu... I feel I've blogged about this before. How about that :)

I really like this concept, and reckon you've done pretty well with those two. The first definitely feels conceited and arrogant, esp. at the start and then takes off on that very proud solo.
I really like the effects on the second, totally swamped in regret (and possibly even some paranoia, despair and deja vu). Very dark and good.
