So tell me...

What the fuck happened to Iraq? While Israel has recently been bombing the fuck out of anything that moves in Lebanon, everyone seems to have forgotten about Iraq... including me, for a little while. Whilst talking to a friend a few weeks ago (from Iraq), it dawned on me that the focus on Iraq has been completely overshadowed by Lebanon and Israel. Not to take anything away from the atrocities going on in Lebanon at the moment... but it seems like we've just swept it under the rug to come back and look at "a bit later on" (as I have now). We never really knew what the hell was going on in Iraq (at least nothing coming from our mainstream media to inform us), but conservatively figures have put it at about 5,500 Iraqi civilian deaths per MONTH (from http://www.unknownnews.net/casualties.html#iraqicivilianskilled). In essence, nobody really cares about this anymore, not that we now have maybe around 1000 Lebanese deaths to focus on.

And from Boing Boing;

While President Bush and other Republican politicians spent the day exploiting the memory of those we lost five years ago, the nation overlooked a grim milestone: More Americans have now died in Iraq than died on 9/11. Iraq didn't attack us on that day, and our misguided policy there has now taken more American lives than Al Qaeda.

Here are the numbers: 3,015 Americans have died in Iraq as of September 9. 2,666 of these were military deaths and 349 were civilians.
