Assembly Jerk

I've been involved with many musical adventures over the years; some successful, some not. Whilst kicking around the house this morning, I got to singing a song that my friend Tim and I wrote in the late '90's as part of an album we were going to do. At the time, I was writing tunes like they were going out of fashion, only hampered by my complete lackadaisical approach to writing lyrics. Thus I called on my friend Tim; "Could you write lyrics for a song or two?". He countered with lyrics for 13. And so the idea of doing a whole album - his lyrics, my music - was born. It was to be called "Assembly Jerk". I ended up doing music for about 7 tracks, before getting distracted :) But I always liked this one best; simple music and melody and some ripper lyrics. Here are the lyrics (I've bolded my favourite lines);

I will take the sun into my mouth
For I have grown up strong
Don't take pity on the one you hurt
It's more what he deserves
Excuses don't make me cry
Excuses bring me back to earth
I want to play that song again
The one that gave you life to hear

It's a beautiful life
It's such a beautiful life

A ring stuffed back in the drawer
and it's captured and the pain goes away
Do you fear in me what I fear in you?
I fear that my history will repeat itself
I can't blame the fact that you turned your back
If I were you, I would've run

And what did you do with that photograph?
Cut me out and throw away the evidence

It's a style from before the 20th
But no country virgin is innocent
It's a style from before the 20th
But no country virgin is innocent

Did you mean it when you said to me you knew how Virginia Woolf felt?
I don't need your pathetic sympathy
And guilt ridden phone conversations
You are submerged inside the emptiness
Can't just get on your motorbike and ride

Afraid of the city so far from the folks
I guess that kind of style will never die
It's a beautiful life

It's a style from before the 20th
But no country virgin is innocent
It's a style from before the 20th
But no country virgin is innocent

And if you want to have a listen to it, check it out here. 1 guitar, 2 vocals - it's pretty raw - but I think that's part of it's charm :)
